The Complex Dance of Wealth and Emotional Abuse in 'Finding Me'

Wealth, love, and emotional manipulation – a tricky cocktail, right? In Finding Me, we see Atinuke doing her best to navigate this convoluted web of relationships and self-worth.

At the center of this story is what happens when wealth is present but not a safety net. Atinuke's life, played by Funke Akindele, is a case study in how money can create a false sense of security. It allows for the perfect environment for emotional abuse to fester, as her husband Kolawole is the very definition of toxic.

The Double-Edged Sword of Wealth

In Finding Me, wealth doesn't just mean comfort; it means control. No one likes to think of money as a weapon, but in Atinuke's case, it is. Kolawole, using her resources, uses his charm, and exploits her vulnerability. When the money is flowing, it’s easy to think everything is fine. But when Kolawole's lies unravel, it becomes painfully clear that wealth can also be a tool for emotional manipulation.

That’s the dark side of money. It can turn one into an unwilling participant in a game of emotional chess. Control is a slippery slope, and Kolawole is a master at keeping Atinuke on edge.

Finding Value Beyond Wealth

But then, Atinuke begins to find herself – or at least, she tries to. The film captures her journey towards self-discovery. Initially, she’s desperate for Kolawole’s love. She thinks he can change. But as the story unfolds, she learns that she can change herself. Fitness, fashion, and personal growth become her tools for reclaiming her identity.

This evolution makes me wonder: does wealth blind us to our own worth? Or can it be the very thing that helps us see it? Atinuke’s journey brings us to the conclusion that self-worth doesn’t come from bank accounts, but from within.

Challenging Societal Norms

There's also a larger commentary. Finding Me effectively challenges the societal norms that tie a woman’s worth to her reproductive capabilities. Atinuke’s life, for better or worse, is lived in the public eye. The pressure to present a perfect marriage is immense.

And then there's the weight of societal expectations. The narrative questions what we, as a society, value. Is it family at all costs? Is it love? Is it the perfect image of a woman who is a mother? Atinuke's story dares us to rethink these questions.

In a world of international finance and the power that comes with it, perhaps financial independence is the key to breaking free. Yes, one global finance company may control your bank account today, but it doesn’t have to control your life.

Ultimately, Finding Me isn't just a tale of betrayal; it's a reflection of the roles we all play in our own stories. Whether we're Atinuke or Kolawole, the film encourages us to look at our values, our worth, and what we really want.
